We’re on the new Cities 97 Sampler

Thanks to the Cities 97 for including a live track of ours on the Sampler this year! It’s loaded with talented bands, and we’re honored to be part of such a worthy cause. We recorded “Rope Swing over Rogue Valley” at Studio C in April of 2010, leading up to the release of our first album, Crater Lake — you can find it on iTunes, Bandcamp, and CDBaby, as well as at local Twin Cities record stores, along with it’s sequel The Bookseller’s House. The third album in our series of four is called Geese In The Flyway, and it will be coming out Friday, Nov 26th at a special CD release show at The Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis. Get your tickets in advance here, and listen to the new album online here!

Updates: fall album release, shows, and more

Posted on | October 11, 2010 | No Comments

Hello,

Autumn is officially upon us. Time flies, doesn’t it? We’re nearing completion of our 3rd record of the year, called GEESE IN THE FLYWAY, and you’ll want to snap up your tickets to the release show well in advance: it’s happening NOVEMBER 26 at the CEDAR CULTURAL CENTER in Minneapolis. Get your tickets directly from the Cedar’s website here. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic show – opening is Franz Nicolay (of The Hold Steady), and Stornoway, a much-buzzed-about band from the UK.

If you still don’t have the first two albums, you can find Crater Lake and The Bookseller’s House online via iTunes, Bandcamp, and CDBaby. Locally, we’re stocked at The Electric Fetus, Cheapo, and Treehouse Records. Beginning November 2nd, the albums will be available at Target stores along with the Cities 97 Sampler, which will include a live version of Rope Swing Over Rogue Valley.

Upcoming Shows:

Oct 14 –  Varsity Theater, Minneapolis. “Cocktails for a Cause.” This is a fantastic event, organized to raise money for the cardiovascular program at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Register online – $35 gets you appetizers and a drink, some great entertainment, and serious warm fuzzies for donating to a great cause.

Nov 10 – University of Minnesota, Duluth

Nov 11 – StageNorth, Washburn, MN

Nov 26Fall album release show, Cedar Cultural Center, Minneapolis

That’s all for now

Thanks, as always, for keeping up with us.

Updates – Fall album release show, iTunes, Jersey Shore and more

Posted on | September 8, 2010 | 3 Comments

The past month has been great. We’re officially halfway through our four-album series with the release of The Bookseller’s House. Thanks to everyone who rocked First Avenue with us!  Nobody in the band had shared the stage with dancers on trampolines before… we might have to do it again someday. Right now, we’re in the thick of recording the Fall album, which will be called Geese In The Flyway. We’re all really excited – if not a bit exhausted.  We’ve got some exciting things happening in the coming weeks that we want to share.

The first two Rogue Valley albums are for sale everywhere
You can now find Crater Lake and The Bookseller’s House online via iTunes, Bandcamp, and CDBaby. If you’re the type that digs a hard copy, we understand – the CDs are beautifully designed, and each one features original artwork by Chris Koza that you can proudly display in your collection. Get CDs directly from the CDBaby or Bandcamp links above, or even better, from the Electric Fetus or Cheapo locally.

Chris Koza is MN Monthly’s “Emerging Music Star”
“…This year, the singer-songwriter has arguably become Minnesota’s most ambitious musician, forming the folk-pop band Rogue Valley from among the Twin Cities’ sharpest indie-rockers and slating four new releases before the year’s up. That’s in addition to collaborating with such notable locals as pop-rocker Jeremy Messersmith, jazz thrush Alicia Wiley, and poet Alex Lemon.” Check out a PDF of the article here.

Fall album release show
We’re close to being able to announce the details of the Fall album release show for Geese In The Flyway. For now, mark November 26th on your calendar – we will get back to you with all the pertinent info as soon as we can.

Rogue Valley on Jersey Shore?
You read that right … a bit of our song The Warming Moon can be heard on a recent episode of MTV’s Jersey Shore. We’re surprised too. Hey, if we can bring some comfort to a heartbroken Snookie, then we’ve done our job… right? Check it out here, at somewhere around the 12:40 mark.

Upcoming shows
As we gear up for the Fall album release, we have some shows you might want to check out.

Sept 25 – VFW Block Party, Uptown Minneapolis. Details here on the event’s Facebook page.

Oct 14 –  Varsity Theater, Minneapolis. “Cocktails for a Cause” Silent Auction and Benefit for MN Children’s Hospital.

Nov 10 – University of Minnesota, Duluth

Nov 11 – StageNorth, Washburn, MN

Nov 26 – Fall album release show, Minneapolis MN

That’s all for now… thanks, as always, for keeping up with us.

Thoughts from the Road

Spending the day in Columbia, Mo, a night after performing in the town square of Kirksville, Mo.  A great show in Kirksville as usual.  VERY special water there, I mean, everyone seems to have a great artistic mind.  Thanks to all of the great students in Kirksville who made it out to the show.  We can’t wait to return. The butternut squash grow-over-eth in Kirksville; like blackberries along the highway in Oregon, or like algae in the still lakes of Minnesota.

Just spending time in old haunts: the Lakota Coffee Co, Shakespeare’s Pizza, and the great lawns of MSU until we set up and sound check for our early show at Mojo’s.
